Introduction to Competitiveness index

The competitiveness index is a software solution for calculating several competitiveness indexes for international trade, which was launched in early 2022.

The software was created as a necessity and offers several advantages; multiple indexes, fast, big data, visually appealing, and perfect for fast results.

This solution offers the ability to calculate different indexes such as RCA (Revealed Comparative Advantage), GLIIT (Grubel-Lloyd Index of Intra-Industry Trade), TFCC (Trade Flows and Competition Categories) and CI (Competitiveness Index - integrated solution that is based on RCA, GLIIT and TFCC). It uses only import and export data.

Although only data on imports and exports are used, looking over a long period of years, calculating the index can be a real problem. This problem is solved by this software solution, in just a few seconds it calculates huge amounts of data without error.

In addition, when the data obtained can be a real challenge to read the results, the software solves this problem by coloring the cells based on value and thus makes it easier to read the results and identify successful tariffs or sectors. Thanks to this, even someone I do not fully understand, can conclude which sectors are competitive and which are not. It is important to emphasize that the interpretation of the results should be left to experts, decisions are best made based on the opinion of experts.

The results of the Competitiveness Index can be used for scientific research purposes, policymaking, and more.

The software solution Competitiveness index was created through a master's thesis of a student at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, University of Sarajevo.
